I've never seen the commerical, but then again... I live in the U.S. You know, it seems that nomatter where you live... celebreties and pop idols seem to always be able to influnce the masses. I wish they'd publicize more of some of their human rights and environmental issues that they've been working on. I mean, Bono... everyone knows about what he's done... same with some others, but there need to be more. What do all those celebs do with their money? Why can't they help out the less fortunate and those who can't help themselves? *sigh* I wish more of them would get involved and it be public. I think if that happened more often, more people would help out with those issues. ^^

Oh, by the way... LONG TIME NO SEE! ...and sorry I haven't been around here lately.
Missed you. I've been so slow to reply anymore. ^_^' I do have something for discussion though. ^^

I found an article that disgusted me today... and I'll state my case again on US President Bush and me destesting his inability to function as a proper president... or human being... morals my butt... <_< *insert more ranting here*

Oh, I saw the above questions:

Do you think the world is doing pretty well in preventing the violations of human rights?
Nope. People could always do more and there are so many people who are indifferent or don't want to listen or try to help in those situations.

Do you think people are really caring and working towards an ideal world?
Not as many people care as their should be. Some people are really working hard while others don't want to bother with it and want to forget it happens. There are things that nations could and should do to stop the cruelty and atrocities that happen in this world.... there are things they could do to stop them, but they don't for various excuses.

Who do you think (group wise - ex. Amnesty In., MAD, etc.) is doing to most work in creating this ideal world?
Amnesty is the only one I actually hear about... but I'm not sure if they are doing the most work... sometimes there are people in the background working harder, you just never hear about those unsung heros.

What is your definition of an ideal world?
A world without fear, agression, segregation, depression, loss, suffering, hate, prejudice... somewhere that people love one another because they're just like them, because they're different, because they're human. Where people from all over the world come together as one in harmony, caring for one another. Everyone would be treated as equals (healthcare, basic necessities, religious beliefs...).

A world that we are not prepared for nor are mature enough for, but long for.

Yeah. More people would get involved if everyone felt threatened. But that would only last for only so long. Once that disaster is taken care of, there may be a plunge in numbers that are willing to help out. Another disaster would just make things worse than things are. Countries would have to think for themselves and slow down or even stop helping countries in need. Some kind of national, or even a world wide disaster would inspire people to help out more, but it wouldn't do much good for the people that need help the most.

Yes, I'm glad that we share similar thoughts ^_^

So I guess the Flick Off commercial is only aired in the Canada... Have you heard of that big concert the promoted environmental awareness? That was world wide I believe. They had the concert going on in several places around the world. The TV program I was watching would switch from country to country every hour or so. There were a couple of channels showing it too.

Anyways, the commercial I was talking about is rather effective. The first few times off watching it, people would probably think, 'oh, cool,' and do nothing. But after a while of seeing the commercial, it gets to you and makes you feel guilty, and you turn your light off (it's a commercial where celebrities tell you to turn your lights off).

:D im glad were on common ground. and you're so right about the environmentalists. all of these environmental groups are actually making more accomplishments than the human rights groups. maybe it's because the environmental issues are more a national issue (like animal extinction or animal poaching within designated areas) rather than international issues, so there isnt much arbitrating to be done. but still...everyone needs to get involved. if only there was a way to get everyone involved. the only way i could think of is by having some sort of international crisis b ut we cant risk that either.

uhh...i havnt noticed any. sorry. are they really that effective?

hehe, yeah i see where youre coming from. i cant talk well at all but i could at least express my thoughts properly in writing. :)

Not really ^_^; I'm only fairly good with words when I writing or typing something up. Talking is a completely different story XD

I agree with you about atrocities happening repeatedly. It's not just the very troubled countries like Myanmar (Burma) and Nigeria. Human right violations happen everywhere, even in the countries that are better off financially.

I completely agree with you with the envisioning. Most people just picture a better tomorrow that they think they're working towards, when all they're really doing is nothing. These people, I would say, would be helpful only by showing support in things like votes and petitions. But to be completely honest, that's not going to help if there aren't enough people that are actually fighting for the cause to get petitions and things like that going. Ahah, that last sentence may have not made any sense -_-

Nothing seems to be in our reach now-a-days. Although, recently there have more events supporting the end to global warming. Environmentalists are doing a better job than the human rights people. But then again, environmental awareness must have been out there longer.

Oh hey, has your country air commercials and have advertisements under the name 'Flick Off?' It states that we only have 10 years to lessen our gas emissions, or we're screwed. Those are cool commercials :) Very smart too, targeting the future generations.

wow someone's really articulate. ;)

umm kk. :) ill give them my best shot.

Do you think the world is doing pretty well in preventing the violations of human rights?
Definitely not. Atrocities are still committed against humankind repeatedly, and it's not just a few countries here and there. It's hundreds of countries that are suffering, fighting in their own civil wars and conflicts...and the mere fact that such atrocities are occurring repeatedly should be enough to prove that.

Do you think people are really caring and working towards an ideal world?
I think there is a good chunk of people who do care and envision an ideal world mais at least 3/4 of that good chunk is doing only that: envisioning. They don't and won't act, either out of laziness or pessimism. Most of us are too wrapped up in our world to care, a lot of us envision the ideal world and few of us work towards it.

Who do you think (group wise - ex. Amnesty In., MAD, etc.) is doing to most work in creating this ideal world?
Even though the other groups do make an effort to create this "ideal world," I think Amnesty International works the hardest...hard work isn't really measurable since they all have their own approacches mais lilke you (Melymay) said, Amnesty is the one that appears often in the media.

What is your definition of an ideal world?
Uhh...I can't reallly define something like that. When I think of an ideal world, I would like to say that it's a place where everyone could live without fear of prosecution and everyone has equal access to food, medidcine, shelter and other basic necessities for life, mais I can't really say that either because we'll always live in fear since we all fear different things. And I also like to define an ideal world as something that is attainable, something that's within our reach, but by setting up such a definition, an ideal world isn't really in our reach. based on our own nature and the limitations of our environment, it's impossible...so yeah, I don't reallly think I could define it. -.- gomen. im not reallyl articulate, whether it be in writing or speech.

It's alright. Everyone has their reasons ^^

Right now, there is something you can do. Just scroll through the group content and you'll come across 'Questions of the Moment.' You may answer those if you like.

Here are my answers:

Do you think the world is doing pretty well in preventing the violations of human rights?

I honestly don't think so. Everyone can still do much better than what they're doing now.

Do you think people are really caring and working towards an ideal world?

Only a few of the not-so-many people taking some action - I'd say - really care about what horrible things are happening in the world. The rest of those people just give their sympathy.

Who do you think (group wise - ex. Amnesty In., MAD, etc.) is doing to most work in creating this ideal world?

Amnesty is who I hear about most. And to be honest, it's the only group I ever hear about that's trying to make a change.

What is your definition of an ideal world?

My idea of an ideal world is where no one faces and serious inequality. Where no one feels fear or shame. Where everyone has the right to proper nutrition, homes, and family. Where everyone lives in peace.

gah, sorry i vanished for so long! T-T i vanished in almost all the groups...-.- gomen!

so...what's up and about around here? any new events?!?!?!

It's alright.. And I just deleted my post, hahah. Oh dear. I answered all the 'Questions of the Moment,' too. All my efforts wasted ;_;

Ack.. Well just a little heads up:
Please read the Updates section on the group page.
It's just something one may want to know. Please and thank you.

hey2 :'D sorry for being a super lazy mod >____<
btw, how about we make some event here.

Yup, I'd have to agree. Me being one of them recently. A tornado hit my town and my computer's fried. Outside there's a tree on our shed and a busted fence. I might not be here for a while, but I hope to be more active soon. ^^ ...and maybe even with a new computer...

Oh. Wow. That's intense :S

Metallic colours? I'm all good with that ^^

Hmm.. I've noticed that MT members aren't as active as they used to be.

I've seen that movie. Its difficult to watch in some parts, but a good movie. I doubt I'd watch it twice. You know that those things have happened in real life, even children being taken from their parents and are forced to join certain factions that kill, rape, and murder people. Its just awful.

I don't have any suggestions, really. A silver or metallic layout might be nifty. I dunno. ^_^'

It's alright.

That story is sad. I have a feeling it's too late for her now. Unless the man she was with helped her out of the country because she - for some reason - had to leave. There are a lot of possibilities. Maybe the man she was with was a murderer. But then again, this about a friend of a friend, so you can't be too sure how accurate or real the information is.

Blood Diamonds? Do you mean Blood Diamond? I haven't found the time to watch it yet, but my friend, my mother and my cousin apparently really liked it. The previews looked good, I think you should watch it if you already haven't.

Any suggestions on colour themes for the new layout?

sorry i disappeared. gomen.

ahh umm...that reminds me sorta of a new story that i found really scary and shocking. my sister's friend's sister sort of vanished one day after a party. my sister's friend is really scared because his sister was with some guy who has a bad record from the past. It's been over a year and they didnt find her...i dont know about the guy. either they found out about him or hes refusing to talk. but its really scary...

did anyone watch blood diamonds? is it any good?

Oh wow, sucks to be her. I don't think they'll be able to find her :/ If it's really been two years, all evidence would probably be gone.

I've made an announcement about that a while back. I think I mentioned that already in my last post.

Ugu. That is annoying. Heh heh with my groups, I can usually come up with ideas and keep it alive if I really want to. But right now, two of the groups I'm admin in are sort of dead because I haven't worked on them...

Hmm...let me see...maybe there can be some sort of contest? try making an announcement asking the group members how to keep the group alive. ask for ideas...i can't really think of any...-.-'

They haven't found her yet, but they're not completely sure that's what happened to her. They're still speculating since the guy she was with was released and they have no evidence. She went to Florida or te Keys on spring break and disappeared. Its been 2 years though.

I wonder what we can have here to do... I had some ideas, but I'd have to find them again. -_-'

Not much has been going on. All I'm really good for in a group is making layouts -___- How depressing. There isn't a lot of group activity in the first place to have any activities anyways. That's how it seems like regarding the guestbook.

The response I got from the lastest poll from this group said that TC should have more things to do. I have many ideas, but all of them take a rather large chunk of time from the already limited amount I have. It really would be nice to have another active administrator here. I wonder what's happened to peniko?

As for the human trafficking issue: HOLAY COW! A rich college student?! How the heck did those people get away with that?! Have they found her yet?

That's really unbelievable. I'm speechless :X

Ello ppl. It's been ages. What been going on in the group since I last disapeared?

She didn't get any enducation that I know of until she escaped... unless she'd gone to kindergarten before being kidnapped. To my knowledge, she was currently learning through remedial-type classes and I think she had a job. Her english was alright, but you could tell that she was behind by the manner in which she spoke. You can't help but be shocked about the whole thing.

They think a rich college student that disappeared a few years ago (made a big deal about it in the news, but I can't think of her name), that she was trafficked out of the country and sold as a wife or a slave. Its frightening to think that some of these missing children and teenagers might be in that situation. I don't see how anyone can do that to another human being. I can't comprehend that at all. T_T

I can only think that she survived that long only by sheer will to live and escape. She didn't lose hope.

The age she was sold at was depressing to read. Her childhood was probably taken away. And what about her education? Being a slave since the age of five must've been harsh. I'm a bit surprised that she's lived up until now.

Sorry for the harshness -_-

seriously...its sickening...

Welcome to the group, krelric ^^

What a horrible way of slavery. That's... disgusting. So much for better security. It's unthinkable how the government has let this slip away.

You're very welcome to the group. ^^

I saw a news report not that long ago about human traffic/trafficking here in the US. Its awful. They think that's where some "missing" women and children are going. The government thinks they'e being sold to markets outside and some inside the US. They even spoke to one girl who'd been a slave in Iowa (I think). It was gut-wrenching to think that it could happen here in the US, especially since we claim that we're "above" that. The girl said she was sold to her captors when she was 5 or so. They made her do chores and abused her. She believed that if she died, noone would ever know or remember her. So she kept going, hoping she'd be free one day. She said she'd escaped when she was about 17/18. I think she was about 20 now. I can't imagine how frightening that must have been for her. T_T It makes me ill at what people are capable of. >=(
